Pastor's Corner
To God Be The Glory Family!
Last week we starting looking at some things that we can learn from Nehemiah’s example on becoming a great leader in spite of strongholds from within. From the Bible we can see the many problems Nehemiah and the people faced as they were trying to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Let’s continue to look at some additional points on how God used these obstacles to form and fashion Nehemiah into a great leader. (The Makings of A Great Leader In Spite of Obstacles From Within [Neh. 5] cont’d):
(Rd. vs. 7)
3. Take the time to meditate and pray about the need- Nehemiah took the time to really think about the need presented before him and the situation as a whole. We are going to have to pray and ask God for wisdom to be able to effectively minister to the people God is sending to us because only God knows what to really do and we want to make sure we give Godly wisdom on handling different situations we are confronted with.
(Rd. vs. 7-13)
4. Act upon the need- (Make yourself apart of the solution) Nehemiah was a man of action so he dealt with the leaders who were mishandling the people who were doing their best to fulfill the vision of the walls of their Holy City being rebuilt. God gave him the wisdom to speak to the leaders they responded in a positive way.
(Rd. vs. 14-19)
5. Never use your position to abuse those in need- Nehemiah was the governor of Judah for 12 yrs and during that time there were certain privileges that he could have taken advantage of by right because of his position like eating food that was paid for by the allowance received by the governor, however this privilege was at the expense of the poor. Past governors had used their position to take advantage and make life even harder for the people (even their servants took advantage of the poor). Instead Nehemiah labored among and with the people to get the wall completed. They did only what was needed to build the wall. He fed 150 of the Jewish leaders and their people who came from the surrounding nations, preparing food daily and he never demanded the allowance given by the governor. He prayed that God would remember him and all he did because only God can reward you for all you’ve done—not man.
